Washoe County Nevada added voting precincts after the 2020 Census process had begun, but before the 2020 General Election.

This will cause issues for anyone attempting to match U.S. Census Bureau 2020 Census shapefile sets to Washoe County’s 2020 General Election results tables.

The U.S. Census Bureau’s precinct level data and shapefiles in the 2020 Census Redistricting File (Public Law 94-171) Dataset reflect Washoe County’s earlier precinct mapping. This was unavoidable due to the massive effort and time it takes to prepare for, and execute, a decennial census.

2020 General Election results for Washoe County should be mapped to the most recent precinct shapefiles, not the U.S. Census Bureau’s previously mentioned shapefiles. Up to date precinct shapefiles for Washoe County are available on the County’s GIS Open Data site:
